BUREAU turns Former Dental Cabinet into Geneva Apartment

Maison Molaire by Swiss architectural practice BUREAU transforms a former dental cabinet into an apartment in Geneva, encompassing interior refurbishment and furniture design. The focus lies on exploring creative variations of supports and stages for everyday life within domestic spaces. The concept challenges traditional architectural norms, recognizing the diverse ways people inhabit spaces, and deviating from standardized family structures. The apartment, originally designed for mixed-use in the early 1980s, provides a structurally free base with transversal skylights and north-oriented openings, fostering a sense of openness and flexibility.

BUREAU follows the concept of ‘flux’ for Maison Molaire’s design

The spatial design leans on the concept of ‘flux’ in human life, aiming to accommodate the unpredictable movements and changes in the occupants’ lives. Minimal partitions are employed, and the architecture of curtains takes center stage in organizing spaces, allowing for various perceptions and interactions. The use of industrial wood panels, meticulously chosen floors, and selective partitions contributes to a dynamic, theatrical environment where every element is considered alive and part of a continual conversation. The project by BUREAU embraces the possibility of ‘disorder’, creating a living space that resonates with the fluidity of human existence.
