To celebrate the 75th anniversary of its brand icon, the Serpenti, Italian fashion house Bulgari has initiated a series of creative collaborations with three contemporary artists from around the world, including Tokoy-based French artist Emmanuelle Moureaux. These collaborations translate into an immersive exhibition titled Bulgari Serpenti 75 Years of Infinite Tales at the Jing Harajuku venue in Tokyo. Moureaux’s intervention takes center stage, marking the 50th of her 100-color installations series with what seems to be an infinite chromatic corridor evoking the allure of the Serpenti, a symbol of eternity. ‘The space is designed to evoke emotion by inviting visitors into an infinite world where colors seem to continue forever, following a long and narrow endless path,’ shares the artist.

honoring bulgari serpenti’s 75th with 347,100 roman numerals

Stepping into a narrow path at the Bulgari Serpenti exhibition, the infinite colors emerge, represented by 347,100 Roman numerals in 100 shades of color. Emmanuelle Moureaux (see more here) chose this special motif as respect to the brand’s roots in Rome, using 100 large transparent acrylic panels, regularly aligned to a depth of approximately 16 meters. These panels are cut out in the middle for visitors to comfortably walk inside the installation, bathing themselves in a chroma of numbers. With each acrylic layer, the numbers and shade progress, from 1 to 100, and from one color gradient to the next. ‘Roman numerals, consisting of five simple symbols (I, V, X, L, C), are aligned perfectly on a three-dimensional grid, creating an infinity of numbers,’ explains Moureaux.
