The tiny alpine retreat designed by Studio Well Architecture features an elevated queen bed fitted with fresh linen sheets, a hypoallergenic wool duvet inner, and a locally crafted wool throw blanket. A flight of steps separated the raised platform from the cozy dining room and kitchen adjacent to the sleeping area.

Self-catering is the style in mind for the kitchen. It comes with all the essentials needed to prepare a meal such as a gas stove, hot water, and a kettle to accompany the stay with a hot drink in the morning or before going to bed. The hosts recommend a drop-by in Methven for a variety of dining options available.

Stepping into the bathroom, a mesh of wood and steel plays with the design contrast of the accommodation. Handmade copper tapware sits atop a wooden cabinet, and steel-clad shower space becomes distinct with its silver gleam. ‘Enjoy the New Zealand-made biodegradable amenities that are provided during the stay,’ the Airbnb hosts write.

The wooden cabin is fully off-grid and powered by the sun, a system that allows power to the lighting and fridge with phone charging and a power outlet available for guests. ‘We only ask guests to be mindful by conserving their energy use during their stay,’ the hosts add.
