NASA titanium watch commemorates apollo 11 landing

Watchmaker Col&MacArthur adds a new member to their INTERSTELLAR collection in the form of LUNAR1,622, a NASA-approved titanium watch with real moon dust from a meteorite. The timepiece, available in either a steel or titanium structure, honors the Apollo 11 landing and the first steps on the moon by incorporating powdered meteorite inside the watch. Right from the start, the steel and titanium body, covered with sapphire glass, displays a detailed view of the moon’s surface, and the moon dust moves as the wearer does.

When owners look at the back of the LUNAR1,622 steel and titanium watches, they will find the official NASA logo stamped as a mark of the space agency’s approval for the timepiece’s release and its connection to moon missions. On the side of the watch’s body, a quote from Neil Armstrong is printed, along with the GPS coordinates of the Apollo 11 landing and the date of the moon landing. For those who prefer not to have the real meteorite moon dust at the 3 o’clock part of the watch, they can opt for the steel watch with the real footprint shape of Neil Armstrong’s step. Roman numerals replace the digits to indicate the time, while a series of white lines indicate the minutes.

Authenticated meteorite moon dust for lunar1,622

The meteorite moon dust used in LUNAR1,622 by Col&MacArthur comes from the Lunar meteorite found in Northwest Africa in 2017, with the ID number NWA11515. It was provided to Col&MacArthur by MSG Meteorites, a British company specializing in certified space rocks, which authenticated and certified the authenticity of the meteorite moon dust. Owners of the LUNAR1,622 will receive a certificate authenticating the origin of the meteorite, as well as a link to the laboratory analysis with details about the meteorite.

Technology is also at the core of the NASA-approved steel and titanium watches since they come with NFC for traceability. Owners are provided with a chip incorporated into the NASA watch, which provides data such as the owner’s name, the timepiece’s unique serial number, information about the Apollo 11 landing, and the meteorite’s ID and analysis. The steel and titanium watches, whose campaign will soon go live, can be fitted with either a Swiss movement (Sellita) or a Japanese movement (Miyota) and are available in a choice of a black or silver case and steel, black leather, black rubber, or white rubber strap.
