clavijero lounge chair and bench nod to mexican culture

Simple lines, geometric volumes, and noble materials define the CLAVIJERO line realized by Mexican designer Christian Vivanco for Peca Studio. Comprising a lounge chair and bench that subtly nods to Mexican culture, the furniture pieces transcend functionality and invite moments of conversation, contemplation, reading, and rest. They have been crafted by hand using traditional carpentry techniques, fusing the textures of oak and Rosa Morada wood along the frame with the tactile quality of cowhide for comfortable seating.

christian vivanco fuses textures of oak with cowhide

Taking its name from one of Mexico’s oldest theaters, CLAVIJERO’s chair and bench draw inspiration from the iconic shape of classic theater seats, infusing a sense of cultural significance into its design. The furniture line showcases a harmonious interplay of materials, featuring either black finished oak or Rosa Morada wood completed by black or natural cowhide. Christian Vivanco’s intentional material palette elevates the inherent qualities of wood and cowhide, adding a tactile and aesthetic luxury while reinforcing ergonomic considerations for comfortable use.

Christian Vivanco is a Mexico City-based designer whose work reflects a commitment to personal expression intertwined with cultural heritage. Exploring the synergy between contemporary design and traditional crafts, Vivanco imbues his creations with authenticity and uniqueness. Beyond CLAVIJERO, Vivanco’s projects include Balsa, delving into the interplay of design and natural fibers with Mexican techniques, and Perso, a personal endeavor focused on developing pieces of pure exploration.
