Suzuki Japan introduceS four-legged vehicle MOQBA

Suzuki Japan is gearing up for its participation in the upcoming Japan Mobility Show 2023 between October 26th and November 5th, and one of its potential additions to its motorcycle and mobility family is a four-legged vehicle that can climb stairs and transport patients on stretchers. Named ‘Modular Quad Based Architecture’ or simply MOQBA, the dog-like vehicle is a mashup between a motorcycle and a transport vehicle since people can ride away with it and it can also be used for specific purposes such as moving objects or people from one place to another.

Flights of steps may not be an issue with Suzuki’s MOQBA. In fact, they are one of the reasons why the vehicle has entered the company’s mobility concept. Looking at its four legs, MOQBA can withstand the bumps and changes along its path as it moves along with them. Its bendy limbs can squish like a sponge to ensure it can weather the stairs, humps, and obstacles. So far, Suzuki’s four-legged vehicle remains a concept, but the company may look forward to turning it into real motorized transport.

Three riding and transport modes for MOQBA

Suzuki Japan’s MOQBA forms part of its proposal for next-generation mobility that uses wheels and four legs for those who face barriers in transportation, such as steps, even in a region with developed public transportation. It is established that the company thinks MOQBA can move smoothly with wheels on flat roads and seamlessly move on steps with legs, but investing more in research and development may help them understand how to realize the four-legged vehicle and project.

So far, Suzuki says it plans to combine the base chassis with attachments and body variations for MOQBA so that it can shift in three modes. These three riding setups include Chair Mode, where the rider can hop on the vehicle and ride away with it as usual; Standing Mode, which Suzuki has yet to explain; and Stretcher Mode for emergencies and medical situations. Suzuki’s aim is to create a mode of mobility that can move people and objects in places where cars can hardly go through in emergency situations. As seen in the images, the four-legged MOQBA may be more than just a transport vehicle.
